SBA Update on Coronavirus Vaccine

Now that immunizations have moved beyond health care providers to a graduated distribution to the general public, people with Spina Bifida have been expressing a number of questions. This update will attempt to address as many of these questions as we can. For the latest update provide by Dr. Timothy Brei, please click HERE.

Scholarship Program

The SBANT Scholarship Fund is administered by SBANT so that persons with Spina Bifida might achieve their full potential through the pursuit of higher education or technical school training. The Scholarship Fund offers assistance to persons born with Spina Bifida for such necessities as tuition, books, room and board and specialized equipment needs. The Scholarship Fund began in honor of Dr. Hurt and continues to be supported by the Dr. and Mrs. Hurt endowment and generous donations from our community.  The 2021 application is available on the link below.  Applications will be due April 15th.

Go Baby Go and Toyota are partnering in Plano Texas to modify power ride on cars for kids with mobility challenges. Cars will be modified from a traditional floor pedal to a switch on the steering wheel for activation, a speed dial and light postural supports.

They are planning a 10 car virtual build for 2/27/21 and are looking for local kids that would be interested in receiving a car.  Kiddos that are the best match for the cars are 2-3 years old, have independent head control and can floor sit independently or with minimal support.  Because sizing of kids varies, they have sometimes been able to accommodate larger 1 year olds and smaller 4-5 year olds.  The application is in an electronic format and the link is below.  COMPLETE ASAP AS THE DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 17th!

If families are new to Go Baby Go, here is some information on the program!

Go Baby Go (GBG) is an international grassroots movement focused on real time, real world solutions for mobility and play. The movement began at the University of Delaware with Dr. Cole Galloway. The mission of GBG is to “help empower individuals with the ability to co-create their world through mobility.” Mobility is a human right. Through GBG’s low tech/high impact solutions, we provide children with social mobility experiences that create opportunities for independence and self-expression through a combination of disruptive innovation, formal academic research and community outreach
