Our mission is to build a better and brighter future for all those impacted by Spina Bifida.

Happy New Year!

We look forward to serving our Spina Bifida community in 2021.  It may continue to look different, including virtual activities, but we are here to support our families and individuals with Spina Bifida.  Don't hesitate to contact us if you have needs.

Bilingual Hispanic Liason Needed

Help! After serving the SBANT Spanish speaking community for over 28 years, Maria will be retiring.  We thank her for all of her dedication to these families and growing this group over the years.  SBANT needs a new Hispanic Liason board member.  This person will not have to fill all the roles that Maria held, that would be a daunting task!  Instead, we need a bilingual Spanish & English speaking person that would assist in communicating with our Spanish speaking families.  This includes:

  • translation assistance when families need assistance or incontinence supplies
  • assistance with translation of SBANT documents and communications
  • assist with communications for events as needed
  • being a member of the board of directors preferred but not required

Please contact Robin for further information at 214-728-9294 or rlee@spinabifidant.org.  Thank you for supporting our Spanish speaking families!

The Centers for Disease Control Issued Vaccination Considerations for Persons with Underlying Medical Conditions

(https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/underlying-conditions.html) Because health conditions related to Spina Bifida are different from person to person, having Spina Bifida alone is not included in the list of conditions that can put one at increased risk of severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19.  Please contact your medical provider who is familiar with your particular health needs, and who will recommend whether you should or could obtain the vaccine before other groups.

Scholarship Program

The SBANT Scholarship Fund is administered by SBANT so that persons with Spina Bifida might achieve their full potential through the pursuit of higher education or technical school training. The Scholarship Fund offers assistance to persons born with Spina Bifida for such necessities as tuition, books, room and board and specialized equipment needs. The Scholarship Fund began in honor of Dr. Hurt and continues to be supported by the Dr. and Mrs. Hurt endowment and generous donations from our community.  The 2021 application will be available February 1st on the link below.  Applications will be due April 15th.
