MARCH 2022 NEWSLETTER

Our mission is to build a better and brighter future for all those impacted by Spina Bifida.

SBANT is focused on supporting our Spina Bifida community in many ways through Education, Advocacy, Reseach & Support.  This includes partnering with SBA, SBA chapters and other community organizations to bring as many opportunities as possible to our community.  We encourage you to get involved and see what opportunities are available below.

Advocate for Spina Bifida Today

Tell Congress to Increase Funding for the National Spina Bifida Program

THE ISSUE: The National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDD) at the CDC houses the National Spina Bifida Program. The National Spina Bifida Program is the only place in the federal government exclusively dedicated to studying this chronic, complex condition affecting children and adults through its National Spina Bifida Patient Registry (NSBPR), the Spina Bifida Collaborative Care Network, and specific research projects.
THE ASK: Ask Members of Congress to support funding.

How Do You Talk To Others About Having Spina Bifida

Have you ever been asked by someone who is able-bodied what it's like to live with Spina Bifida? Or have you been in a situation at work where you don't know how much to explain to supervisors or colleagues about your Spina Bifida-related needs? Or, have others with Spina Bifida or their family members asked for details about your life that you were not ready to share?

Do you wish that you had an outline ready in your mind detailing just how much YOU are willing to share, when, and with whom?

This panel discussion with members of SBA's Adult Advisory Council will help you create your own outline when speaking to current and potential employers and work colleagues, in school/college, when dating or making friends, and when you’re out and about.

There will be time for you to share your questions and insights following the panelist's presentations.

Paralympic Watch Parties

Once again, we will celebrate the Paralympics together with several zoom watch parties, hosted by SBANT and several SBA chapters across the country.  The Paralympics will run from March 4 - March 13th.  We will be highlighting the Spina Bifida athletes on social media, as well as partnering with other Spina Bifida chapters to watch the games several times throughout those 10 days.  You must pre-register to receive the zoom links to attend. See link below.

Tom Thumb Good Neighbor Program

Do you shop at Tom Thumb?  You can link your rewards card to SBANT as one of your favorite charities and Tom Thumb will give back to us.  About the Good Neighbor Program -  Tom Thumb believes in working together with our customers to support programs that improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. We are committed to assisting non-profit organizations that are important to our customers and their families.

Tom Thumb offers our customers a way to direct our donation dollars to their favorite church, school or other non-profit organization. Since the program began in the fall of 1996, Tom Thumb/Randalls has donated nearly $48 million to over 8000 participating organizations. Through our Good Neighbor Program, organizations sign up to have an exclusive account number. Members of an organization can then link the account number to their Rewards card. You can link your favorite participating charity to your Rewards card by completing a Good Neighbor Charity Addition/Deletion Form.

A link to the form can be found on the button below.  SBANT's Charity Number is 1059.  Complete the form with your Rewards number and visit the Customer Service desk the next time you buy groceries.  It's an easy way to earn funds for SBANT without costing you any money!
